PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method in which precision in detection of a position and a rotation angle is improved when an object image is collated with a teaching image. SOLUTION: A contour of an object image and a contour of a teaching image are severed at each inflection point and a contour part is generated. The sum of the squared difference of the curvature of the object image and the teaching object for each contour part is figured out and designated as the first evaluation value. The difference between the distances of each two contour parts of the object image and the teaching image is designated as the second evaluation value. The difference between the angles made by the straight lines connecting the respective three contour parts in the object image and the teaching object is designated as the third evaluation value. The sum of the first evaluation value, the second evaluation value, and the third evaluation value is designated as a degree of mismatching, and a combination in which a degree of mismatching figured out in the combinations of the contour parts of the teaching image and the object image is minimum is determined as the object image corresponding to the teaching image. A position and a rotation angle of the object image are figured out from the positional relationships between the contour parts associated in the teaching image and the object image.
