<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to freely execute formatting in slip printing or label printing. <P>SOLUTION: A printing system is provided with an output layout storage part storing data showing an output layout, an image combining part for generating an output image by inserting text data into the output layout, and a printer for printing the combined output image. The system executes a step (S1) for registering a character string and processing applied to the character string, a step (S3) for specifying the registered character string from the text data, and a step (S4) for converting the text data by applying the registered processing to the specified character string.
