<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate with an optical compensation layer, which eliminates the need for a cover plate, such as glass and contributes to thinning, and which is superior in abrasion resistance and wet heat resistance, and also which performs superior field angle compensation, provides a circularly polarized light of wideband, prevents heat unevenness, and prevents light leakage in black display; and to provide an image display apparatus that uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: The polarizing plate with the optical compensation layer includes: a hard coating layer; polarizer; a first optical compensation layer where the slow axis is arranged intersecting with respect to the absorption axis of the polarizer; and a second optical compensation layer where the slow axis is arranged intersecting with respect to the absorption axis of the polarizer, in this order. The first optical compensation layer provides substantially half of the phase difference with respect to the wavelength of a monochromatic light, and the second optical compensation layer provides substantially quarter of the phase difference to a wavelength of monochromatic light. The hard coat layer contains urethane acrylate, polyol (meth)acrylate, and a (meth)acrylic polymer, having an alkyl group including a hydroxyl group not less than two. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
