摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the presence or absence of combustion variation during the transient operation of an engine. SOLUTION: An angular velocity sensor 33 is installed to detect the angular velocity of the crankshaft of the engine 1. An electronic control unit (ECU) 30 of the engine obtains the crank angleθmax at which the angular velocity of the crankshaft detected by the sensor 33 during the compression and combustion strokes of each cylinder is maximum, and compares it with the value of theθmax in the stroke cycles in the past for each cylinder. When the variation of the values ofθmax this time exceeds a predetermined value, the ECU determines that the combustion variation of that cylinder occurs. By determining the combustion variation using the crank angle at which the angular velocity is maximum in place of the magnitude of the angular velocity itself, the ECU can accurately determine the presence or absence of the combustion variation without being affected by the acceleration and deceleration of the engine.
