PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt thickener capable of thickening sludge to a sufficient degree even in case of an operation at a higher load than a designed treatment capacity without requiring an excessively long belt. SOLUTION: The belt thickener is equipped with upper and lower rotatable endless-belts 12, 17 having water permeability disposed between a feed section 2 for feeding sludge A to be thickened and a discharge section 3 for discharging thickened sludge B. The endless belts 12, 17 are disposed so as to allow the sludge A being thickened fed from the feed section 2 to travel from the upper endless belt 12 to the lower endless belt 17. The rotation rate V2 of the lower endless belt 17 is set lower than the rotation rate V1 of the upper endless belt 12. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
