PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide optical glass which has pronounced short flint character, good chemical stability, excellent crystallization stability and good solarization stability, and a refractive index nd of 1.60-1.80 and/or an Abbe numberνd of 30-40, and which is used in the application fields of imaging, sensors, microscopy, medical technology, digital projection, photolithography, laser technology, wafer/chip technology, and in the application fields of telecommunication, optical communication technology and optics/lighting in the automotive sector. SOLUTION: The optical glass has a following composition (in wt.% based on oxide): 19-45% SiO<SB>2</SB>, 3-7.5% B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 25-31% Nb<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>, 2-8% K<SB>2</SB>O, 0.1-2% TiO<SB>2</SB>, 6-10% ZrO<SB>2</SB>, and 0.5-8% Ta<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>.
