The method involves connecting an inner ring (3) with an axle (2) in a press fit manner. A sensor (7) is positioned for detecting a change of condition related to expansion and/or compression of the inner ring. A condition of the installed inner ring is detected by the sensor, and the inner ring is dismantled by the axle. Another condition at the dismantled inner ring is detected by the sensor, and the two conditions are compared with one another. An independent claim is also included for a unit i.e. hand-held unit, for integrating with a sensor.
