摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a field sequential liquid crystal display device having organic EL elements with high luminous efficiency serving as backlight. SOLUTION: The field sequential liquid crystal display device includes the backlight 13 and a liquid crystal panel which makes specified region selectively transparent, in synchronization with the luminescence of the backlight. The backlight comprises a plurality of light-emitting units formed by alternately laminating three organic light-emitting members 27 to 29 respectively, having different luminescent colors and four electrodes 30 to 33, with each unit consisting of one organic light emitting member and one set of electrodes sandwiching the organic light-emitting member. The alignment direction of the diode characteristics of adjacent light-emitting units are the same, and switching elements S1 to S3 are connected in parallel with respect to the organic light-emitting units. The backlight has a power supply that has respective switching elements connected in series, and a controller 35 for controlling switching of each switching element into open state one by one, while the remaining switching elements is controlled to be in closed state.
