PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent abnormal light emission of laser, while minimizing increase in cost. SOLUTION: This is a laser diode drive circuit equipped with a control loop 30 for feedback-controlling the quantity of light emission from a laser diode, according to either a quantity of light emission from either the laser diode LD or a quantity of reflection light from an object to be measured. The laser diode drive circuit comprises a wind comparator 36 for monitoring the voltage of the control loop 30, and a light emission stopping means 38 for stopping light emission, when the voltage of the control loop 30 lies outside a predetermined range.
