PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new substituted polyacetylene compound having high solvent resistance and heat resistance, soluble in various kinds of organic solvents, having long main chain conjugation and capable of exhibiting high transparency by simple chemical oxidation/reduction treatment. SOLUTION: The acetylene-based polymer has (n) recurring units represented by formula (1) [wherein n is an integer of 10-10,000; A is selected from a naphthyl group, a phenanthryl group, a pyrenyl group and an anthryl group which are mono- or di-substituted with a group selected from an alkyl group, an alkyl group substituted with an aromatic hydrocarbon group, R<SP>1</SP>-O- group, -S-R<SP>2</SP>group, -NR<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>, a cyano group, a carboxy group, R<SP>5</SP>SO<SB>2</SB>-, -COOR<SP>6</SP>group, -CON(R<SP>7</SP>)(R<SP>8</SP>) and -COR<SP>9</SP>(wherein R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>5</SP>, R<SP>6</SP>and R<SP>9</SP>are each an alkyl group and R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>7</SP>and R<SP>8</SP>are each a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group); recurring units need not to be the same].
