REAR PROJECTION TYPE DISPLAY APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rear projection type display apparatus in which image light emitted from a projector does not make incident on the eyes of a viewer directly and a sound image can be localized in the center of a screen. SOLUTION: The rear projection type display apparatus includes: a image source (1) that generates the image light; a screen (3) having a first face (3a) on which the image light is made incident and a second face (3b) from which the image light exits and having light scattering properties and light diffusing properties; an optical system (2) for making the image light generated by the image source incident on the screen; and a speaker (5) that emits a sound corresponding to an image displayed on the screen. The screen (3) has a plurality of key-shaped hollows that are open in the first and second faces of the screen. A sound wave generated from the speaker enters the first face of the screen and exits the second face through the key-shaped hollow. The screen is formed from a plurality of translucent plates in the form of short strips, and a slit may be formed between the plates. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
