PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal continuously variable transmission for ensuring smooth tilting motion of a trunnion with shifting operation by relaxing friction force between each of yokes and the trunnion while reducing manufacturing cost for the yokes. SOLUTION: The toroidal continuously variable transmission comprises a pair of insertion members 130, 132 held between the trunnion 15 and each of the yokes 23A, 23B for engaging with each other via their irregular spherical faces while consistently supporting force operating between both of them in a wide range during shift. So, smooth tilting motion of the trunnion with the shifting operation is secured by relaxing friction force between each of the yokes 23A, 23B and the trunnion 15 while reducing manufacturing cost for the yokes 23A, 23B.
