A mobile terminal having a wireless USB(Universal Serial Bus) function is provided to enable a user to obtain convenience by applying USB standards to internal data transmission and reception and infrared communication to data transmission and reception with an external device in a mobile terminal which supports data transmission and reception through a USB cable. A mobile terminal having a wireless USB function comprises a USB processing part(286), an infrared transmitting part(290) and an infrared receiving part(292). The USB processing part(292) supports data transmission and reception through a USB cable. The infrared transmitting part(290) is composed of a data converter(290a), a modulator(290b), an LED(290d), and an LED driver(290c). The data converter(290a) converts the data transferred from the USB processing part(292) in accordance with infrared communication standards. The modulator(290b) modulates the converted data according to a modulation scheme having a preset frequency. The LED(290d) generates an infrared signal. The LED driver(290c) drives the LED(290c), based on the signal outputted from the modulator(290b). The infrared receiving part(292) converts the data transferred from an external device through infrared communication according to USB communication standards and forwards the converted data to the USB processing part(292).
