A printing unit comprises a frame (28) having upper and lower printing groups with respective blankets (22) and plate cylinders (24). A cylinder support and a movement mechanism (26) move the printer into throw-on or throw-off configurations. A tubular blanket is slidingly received by the blanket cylinders in the frame opening in lateral wall for changing blanket. The throw-on configuration has the cylinders pressed against each other. In a throw-off configuration, the cylinders are spaced apart to allow a web of paper printed by another printing unit to pass through. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for changing blanket; (2) printing press.
