Mutant vesicular stomatitis viruses and use thereof

Disclosed is a mutant Rhabdovirus having one or more mutations in a gene encoding a protein involved in blocking nuclear transport of mRNA or protein in an infected cell, wherein the mutation results in the mutant Rhabdovirus having a decrease ability to block nuclear transport of mRNA or protein when compared to the wild-type virus and wherein at least one or more mutations results in deletion of at least one amino acid. The mutant Rhabdovirus may also be capable of triggering the anti-viral systems of normal host cells while remaining sensitive to the effects of these systems. Also disclosed is the use of the mutant Rhabdovirus for the treatment of cancer, as vaccines and/or adjuvants and viral vectors.
