Method for estimating the orientation of a solid object that rotates within a non-horizontal plane, in which: the object is equipped with a magnetic sensor that is sensitive to changes in direction; and at least one orientation angle of the object, relative to a reference within the plane, is estimated, where angle is determined from the sensor (21) measurements. The sensor is sensitive to a magnetic field and is sensitive along at least two axes. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.
