摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the quality of a display image by more suitably controlling light quantity applied to a display element in accordance with the feature of a video scene. SOLUTION: The video display apparatus is provided with a histogram preparation means for dividing the luminance level of an input video signal into a plurality of luminance level sections and detecting the histogram distribution of respective luminance level sections and a light quantity control means for controlling the light quantity of a light source and constituted so that when the histogram value of at least one luminance level section detected by the histogram preparation means is larger than a prescribed value, the light quantity of the light source is controlled by the light quantity control means to set the light quantity applied to the display element to a previously set minimum value.
