PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink supply mechanism in which the ink being supplied can be held stably under a state of positive pressure, holding amount of ink can be managed accurately, and ink supply processing can be made smooth, and to provide a recorder and a control method of the ink supply mechanism. SOLUTION: In an ink jet printer performing printing on a sheet being conveyed by an ink jet recording head, an ink supply mechanism for supplying ink from an ink cartridge to the ink jet recording head is provided with an ink holding section 35 for holding ink fed in from the upstream side and feeding out ink to the downstream side. The ink holding section 35 comprises a holding section body 71, and a partition wall 71a for dividing the interior of the holding section body 71 wherein one space in the holding section body 71 divided by the partition wall 71a serves as an ink channel 72, and an ink holding chamber 74 consisting of an elastic wall 73 which swells to hold the ink when the ink flows from a coupling hole 71b formed in the partition wall 71a is provided in the other space.
