PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device capable of being miniaturized and of easily detecting that residual amount of roll paper becomes below predetermined amount. SOLUTION: This recording device includes an opening/closing door 19 provided with a lower end part hinged on a front face part of a main body 11 having a storing part 21 of roll paper 16 and with an opened upper end part. A platen 36 is supported in the upper end part of the opening/closing door 19, and a record head 37 opposing to the platen 36 when the opening/closing door 19 is closed is supported by the upper end part of the main body 11. The recording device is further provided with a near end detecting means 60 making one portion of the roll paper 16 abut on a front wall part 19 of the storing part 21 during paper conveyance and determining residual amount of the roll paper 16 by detecting the position of the other portion of the roll paper 16.
