PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the disadvantage of the troubles and the cost caused by the recovery of productive facilities at the fire source when liquid or powdered extinguishing agents are used in fire extinguishing facilities obligated to mount at the various kind of productive facilities. SOLUTION: The fire extinguishing apparatus is equipped with a fireproof partition wall surrounding a fire source to define a fire-extinguishing space S, an exhaust outlet 29 formed at the upper end part of the fireproof partition wall to communicate between the outside and the upper end part of the fire-extinguishing space S formed of this fireproof partition, and a carbon dioxide spraying nozzle 26 for spraying carbon dioxide into the fire-extinguishing space S. When flame or smoke occurs from the fire source, carbon dioxide is sprayed into the fire-extinguishing space S, and the air in the fire-extinguishing space S are exhausted out of the space S from the outlet 29, so that the air in the fire-extinguishing space S is replaced with carbon dioxide.
