The invention describes a method of controlling hard-disk accesses between a hard-disk drive (2) and a number of stream buffers (b<SUB>1</SUB> , b<SUB>2</SUB>, ... , b<SUB>k</SUB>), which method comprises dynamically adjusting the size of an access block (B<SUB>1</SUB>, B<SUB>2</SUB>, ..., B<SUB>k</SUB>) for a corresponding stream buffer (b<SUB>1</SUB>, b<SUB>2</SUB>, ..., b<SUB>k</SUB>), allocated to an input/output stream (S<SUB>1</SUB>, S<SUB>2</SUB>, ..., S<SUB>k</SUB>), according to the size of that stream buffer (b<SUB>1</SUB>, b<SUB>2</SUB>, ..., b<SUB>k</SUB>).
