The method involves providing a characteristic curve for describing the dependence of a characteristic of mechanical oscillations of a mechanically oscillatable unit (1) at pressure, where the unit has a paddle that is made from ceramic or plastic. The characteristic of the mechanical oscillations is determined, and the determined characteristic is compared with the characteristic curve. A measured value of a gaseous medium (7) is determined based on the comparison of the determined characteristic with the curve. An independent claim is also included for a device for determination and/or monitoring of a measured value of a gaseous medium.
