PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power saving information recording and reproducing device in which a period of time to be spent for calibration is shortened and initialization time is short by obtaining accurate floating height of a magnetic head. SOLUTION: An information storage device has a magnetic head for controlling the projection of a magnetic pole tip; a recording medium capable of recording and/or reproducing data, wherein a projection for floating height measurement is formed on a surface of the recording medium; and a floating height adjustment control part for adjusting the floating height of the magnetic head by controlling the amount of the projection of the tip part of the magnetic pole of the magnetic head based on the amount of the projection when the tip part of the magnetic pole of the magnetic head contacts the projection for the floating height measurement.
