PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that fixes a toner image formed by using an electrophotography system on a recording medium by heating the toner image, in which an image carrier surface is easily cooled at a low cost by suppressing a decrease in productivity of image formation. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus forms a toner image on the surface 101 of the image carrier 10 by using toner stored in a developing device 30, transfers the toner image to the recording medium P in a transfer region S where the toner image is transferred to the sheet type recording medium P, and heats the toner image transferred to the recording medium P to fix the toner image on the recording medium P, thereby forming an image constituted of the fixed toner image on the recording medium P. The image forming apparatus is equipped with temperature detection units 11 and 90 which detect the temperature of the image carrier surface 101 rising up to specified temperature and a sheet transporting device 60 which feeds an endothermic sheet P in the transfer region S on receiving detection results of the temperature detection units 11 and 90.
