In a data updating apparatus (100), a storing device (101) stores map data comprising regional data related to a plurality of divided regions; a determining part (104) determines the current position of a mobile unit; and a deciding part (106) decides, based on the determined current position and also based on representative positions of the respective regions, an updating order. A control part (107) updates the map data stored in the storing device (101) in such a manner that the map data are updated for each region in the decided updating order. Therefore, the user can use the map data, which has been updated in the updating order suitable for his own current position, to refer to a correct map.
