Provided is a corrosion evaluation device for performing the quantitative evaluation of corrosion by measuring the thinness of either a magnetic material covered with a non-magnetic material or an uncovered magnetic material. The corrosion evaluation device comprises magnetic field generating means for generating a magnetic field containing the magnetic material in a magnetic path, a GMR (Giant Magnet-Resistive effect) sensor having a GMR element for detecting a magnetic flux to leak from the magnetic material, thereby to convert the variation in the magnetic flux into an electric signal, and thinness calculating means for calculating the thinness of the magnetic material on the basis of the electric signal. The corrosion evaluation device performs the quantitative evaluation of the corrosion precisely, even in case the magnetic material to be evaluated is covered with the non-magnetic material.
