An image pickup device and a recording medium in which an auto-focusing method is recorded are provided to rapidly perform an auto-focusing operation irrespective of an image size or the number of pixels by minimizing a detection region for auto-focusing. An image pickup device includes a lens(105), a motor driver(140), an image sensor(410), a high pass filter(420), and a controller(430). The motor driver adjusts the position of the lens. The image sensor converts an optical image signal inputted through the lens into an electric image signal. The high pass filter generates edge component values corresponding to a detection region of an image corresponding to the electric image signal. The controller controls the motor driver such that the lens is located at the position where the sum of the edge component values corresponding to the detection region becomes a maximum value.
