PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable uniform and efficient removal of a saponification reaction solution by scraping in the step of terminating the alkali saponification reaction of a polymer film to prevent the occurrence of flaw failures of the polymer film which can be the cause of product defects such as luminescent spot failure. SOLUTION: In the method of the alkali saponification of a polymer film comprising an alkali solution coating step 14 of coating an alkali solution on a polymer film, a temperature maintaining step 16 of maintaining the temperature of the polymer film coated with the alkali solution at room temperature or higher, a reaction termination step 18 of coating a diluted solvent or an acidic solution on the temperature maintained polymer film to terminate reaction, and a washing step 22 of washing off the alkali solution from the reaction terminated polymer film, the reaction termination step 18 removes the alkali solution by coating the diluted solvent or the acidic solution by a bar coating device 30 having a flat bar 42 whose surface is smooth.
