The gear actuator, for a motor vehicle gearbox, has an electromotor (10) driving a threaded spindle (14) to move a nut (20) along it to shift the axially-moving selection shaft (22). Meshing cogwheels (46,48) are coupled to the shaft to swing it. Two racks (42,44), meshing separately with the cogwheels both with axial and relative movements. The first rack is bonded (50) to the spindle nut for movement direction (36). The second rack can be coupled to the spindle nut or spindle for movement in the same direction.
