PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a screw as a drive mechanism of an elevator; meet requirements for low power of the elevator by using a ball screw; and maintain a nonfixation end of a screw shaft to prevent its rotation, avoid falling of a cage together with a nut, at the same time enable avoidance of uncomfortable feeling due to instantaneous falling, and detect breakdown of the screw shaft to enable more prompt maintenance of it, even if the screw shaft should be broken. SOLUTION: As the drive mechanism of the elevator, the screw is used. A rotation limiting mechanism 7 is provided at the nonfixation end of the screw shaft 1, so as to maintain the nonfixation end of the screw shaft 1 to prevent its rotation, even if the screw shaft 1 should be broken. A spring is provided in the rotation limiting mechanism 7. A sensor for detecting the breakdown of the screw shaft 1 is provided in the rotation limiting mechanism 7. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
