A controlled suds detergent composition comprising (a) 2-20 weight per cent of alkyl aryl sulphonate or a linear alkylate sulphonate, (b) 2-20 weight per cent of a water-soluble non-ionic surface active agent, (c) 0.2-5 weight per cent of a fatty acid phosphate having 12 to 18 carbon atoms inclusive with at least 12 of the carbon atoms in a straight chain, (d) the balance of the composition comprising alkaline builders as follows: (1) 8-12 weight per cent of sodium silicate, (2) 20-30 weight per cent sodium carbonate, (3) 35-45 weight per cent sodium tripolyphosphate, (4) 0.5-2 weight per cent sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. Numerous non-ionic surface-active agents containing alkylene oxide chains are specified. |
