An air conditioner and a control method thereof are provided to limit power supply for a fan driving part not to supply maximum power thereto when initiating an indoor unit fan, thereby reducing noise and vibration and improving stability of the air conditioner. An air conditioner includes a power supply(30), a display(40) for displaying input operation control signals and operation states, and a fan driving part(20) for driving an indoor unit fan to supply cool or warm air. A microcomputer(10) supplies the power to the fan driving part with a limitation to supply power by a predetermined rate of maximum power when initiating the indoor unit fan, and then gradually increases the power until a wind volume supplied by the indoor unit fan reaches a target set wind volume.
