A flat-type single phase brushless direct current motor is provided to improve the efficiency of the motor by minimizing losses of magnetic fields generated from coils which generate rotational torque. A rotor is rotatably fixed to a shaft(110) and has a permanent magnet(121) attached to a lower side thereof. A stator plate(130) made of magnetic material is installed below the rotor. Plural stator cores(140) are installed on the stator plate to face the permanent magnet, and are formed by compressing soft magnetic powder so that the stator cores are asymmetric with respect to a rotation radial direction of the rotor to determine a rotational direction of the rotor. Coils are wounded around corresponding one of the stator cores to form a magnetic field toward the permanent magnet.
