A data processing system comprising an input means which inputs stream data, a management information decoding means for decoding management information transmitted with the input data, a file generating means for cutting out a required file length of the input data and adding a part or all of the management information obtained by the management information decoding means to the cut-out input data to generate a file, a storage means in which the generate file is recorded and a cut-out position setter which sets the starting point and finishing point of cutting out the file from the input data when or before the file is generated. The file forming means cuts out the input data in accordance with the preset starting point and finishing point.
