A method for treating a pig belly product with a protecting composition provides for shaking off casings preserved by salt and washing thereof from the salt in water, and then soaking in water. To raise the strength and reduce the permeability, the product is squeezed from water and it is additionally treated with an aqueous solution of food tannin.
