An operation device for an elevator has a landing chair having a stowable seat and provided in a landing; a landing chair position changing device for changing the position of the seat; and a control device for controlling the landing chair position changing device. The seat can be changed in its position between a landing chair stowage position and a landing chair use position at which a passenger is seated on the chair. The landing chair position changing device changes the position of the seat from the landing seat use position to the landing seat stowage position and performs stowage execution operation for holding the seat at the landing seat stowage position and stowage release operation for releasing the seat from the holding at the landing seat stowage position. The control device has a landing chair control means for controlling the landing chair position changing device based on information from an operation detection means for detecting operating conditions of the elevator.
