An image pickup device and an image pickup method are provided to allow a user to select a through image of desired zoom amplification among a plurality of through images with different zoom amplification displayed on a liquid crystal monitor and simultaneously allow the user to select zoom amplification considering image quality without a mistake when the user selects one of a plurality of the through images. A CCD(Charge Coupled Device)(25) picks up an image of an object and outputs image data. A generating device generates a plurality of image data with different zoom amplification on the basis of the image data outputted from the CCD(25). A CPU(24) simultaneously displays a plurality of the image data generated by the generating device as through images on a liquid crystal monitor(15). A selecting device including a directional key and a set key allows a user to select a certain through image among a plurality of the through images simultaneously displayed on the liquid crystal monitor(15) by the CPU(24) and select zoom amplification. The CPU(24) records the image data of the zoom amplification selected by the selecting device in a recording device. |
