A method for controlling the operation of a cooling fan in a DVD(Digital Versatile Disk) recording/reproducing system is provided to control a rotary speed of the cooling fan according to an internal heating temperature and minimize power consumption according to the driving of the cooling fan. When the power of a DVD recording/reproducing system is turned on, a microcomputer rotates a cooling fan for attenuating internal heating in a predetermined uniform speed(S200). The microcomputer continuously detects an internal heating temperature in a set according to the operation of the DVD recording/reproducing system(S202-S208). The microcomputer checks whether the internal heating temperature in the set is changed to a predetermined reference value or larger to vary and control a rotary speed of the cooling fan(S210). When the internal heating temperature in the set is changed to the predetermined reference value or larger, the microcomputer calculates a cooling fan rotary speed corresponding to the internal heating temperature(S212,S214). The microcomputer varies the rotary speed of the cooling fan as the calculated rotary speed corresponding to the internal heating temperature, and attenuates the internal heating(S216).
