A positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is provided to inhibit gelation of positive electrode active material slurry by controlling a moisture content and alkalinity of a lithium nickel positive electrode active material. The positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery is lithium nickel composite oxide and has a pH of 10.5-12.0 and a moisture content of 3000ppm or less. The lithium secondary battery comprises: a positive electrode containing a positive electrode active material capable of intercalating or deintercalating lithium ions; a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material capable of intercalating and deintercalating lithium ions; and a non-aqueous electrolytic solution.
