PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rice cooker by which raw rice in a soaking process absorbs much water to reduce rice cooking time. SOLUTION: The rice cooker includes a pot 1, a steam-generating means for evaporating water and generating steam, and a pressure-adjusting means 9 for adjusting pressure in the pot 1. Before the soaking process, a steaming process is performed, by which the pressure in the pot 1 is kept higher than that of the atmosphere for a predetermined time, using the steam generated by the steam-generating means and the pressure-adjusting means 9. The steaming process pressurizes the pot 1, so that water is supplied not only to the surface of a rice grain but also to the whole rice grain, and the raw rice after the soaking process is made to have an increased water content. Therefore, time required for the soaking process where the raw rice is soaked for a predetermined time in water supplied to the pot 1 for water absorption, a rice-cooking process, and boiling-maintaining process, is reduced.
