<p>In a color display (10), a plurality of gas discharge tubes having a plurality of light emitting points in the longitudinal direction are arranged side by side in which gas discharge tubes phosphor layers (4R, 4G, 4B) formed of different materials depending on the colors are placed and a discharge gas is infilled; a plurality of display electrodes are arranged on the display surface side of the gas discharge tubes; and a plurality of signal electrodes (3) are arranged on the back side of the plurality of gas discharge tubes. A supporting substrate (32) on the back of the plurality of gas discharge tubes has a predetermined distance between the signal electrode and the back of the gas discharge tube containing a specific material as the phosphor layer in the plurality of gas discharge tubes. The predetermined distance is selected so as to reduce the difference in breakdown voltage between the display electrode and the signal electrode in the gas discharge tubes containing different materials as the phosphor layers.</p>
