<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a glass carrying member in which a coating is hard to be peeled in a high temperature atmosphere, and also, cracks are hard to be generated, and which can be used over a long period, and to provide a method for producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: The glass carrying member 1 carries glass as at least a part thereof is abutted against the glass. The glass carrying member 1 is provided with: a base material 2; and a covering layer 3 formed at least on the surface confronted with the glass to be carried in the base material 2 and essentially consisting of yttrium oxide.
