<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a user to select desired color temperature and brightness, and to prolong the life of a back light unit by increasing its durability and reliability. <P>SOLUTION: A plurality of backlight units 1a, 1b, ..., 1n including a plurality of LEDs 100a, 100b, ..., 100n are selected as at least one main backlight unit and standby backlight units to be used when the main backlight unit decreases in luminance, and backlight units to be turned on are easily switched when necessary. Each of the backlight units is composed of a color link of at least two of different LEDs or a luminance type of at least two of different LEDs.
