PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a welding apparatus and a welding method by which a narrow gap welding high in welding speed and high in quality is attained. SOLUTION: The welding apparatus is provided with: a first welding tip; a second welding tip arranged at a predetermined position with respect to the first welding tip; a first gas feed unit for feeding a first gas such as carbon dioxide having the nature of reducing/concentrating the arc to the first arc generated by using the first welding tip; and a second gas feed unit for feeding a second gas such as argon gas having the nature of expanding the arc to the second arc generated by using the second welding tip.
