PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for economically producing 6-8C hydrocarbons such as BTX i.e. benzene, toluene and xylene from heavy oil. SOLUTION: The method for producing 6-8C hydrocarbons, is characterized by decreasing the total concentration of indane, alkylindane, indene, alkylindene, naphthalene and alkylnaphthalene and increasing the total concentration of benzene, toluene and xylene by bringing stock oil into contact with a metal carrier catalyst, which stock oil contains at least one selected from indane, alkylindane, indene, alkylindene, naphthalene and alkylnaphthalene.
