PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To meet the need for increasing pitches of electric signals and improving gap characteristics from the need for enhancing the accuracy of a magnetic encoder since only an electric signal of a half period of a magnetization pitchλis obtainable although an SVGMR element is suited for power consumption lowering as it has large electric resistance as compared with a bound GMR element. SOLUTION: A first element group and a second element group, each comprising elements of pitches p, are disposed so that they are shifted from each other by p/2 to acquire a midpoint voltage from a connection point between the first and second element groups. By taking out 2n electric signals of the same number as the elements during magnetization pitches 2(λa +λb) of a magnetic medium, pitches of electric signals can be increased and gap characteristics can be improved.
