The invention concerns a method for receiving a digital data stream, the stream comprising frames (1) having each a body (S1, P1 S2, P2 S3) including a variable number of (c) symbols and preceded by a header (C, I) including (d) symbols, one field (I) consisting of a fixed number of (e) symbols unknown to the receiver and defining (c). A feedback phase includes the following steps: a) receiving a series of (e) symbols of the stream; b) for pairs of received symbols, performing a correlation computation, said correlation being assumed to verify a predefined relationship if the (e) symbols form an unknown field; c) determining a correlation level and determining whether the (e) symbols form an unknown field based on said correlation level; d) repeating steps a), b) and c) until it is determined that the (e) symbols form the unknown field.
