PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material charging device capable of suppressing a fed material from scattering to the periphery or colliding in a supply passage communicated with a charging port while automating the charging of the material into a charging port. SOLUTION: The material charging device is equipped with: a storing means 5 for storing a predetermined amount of aluminum material; a motor M for oscillating the storing means 5, inclining the storing means 5 toward the charging port 2a of a meltdown apparatus 2 for melting down the aluminum material, and dropping the stored aluminum material in the charging port 2a to charge it; optical sensors 4a, 4b arranged in or in the vicinity of the charging port 2a and for detecting passage of the aluminum material charged in from the storing means 5; and a control means 9 for intermittently oscillating the storing means 5 by stopping the motor M for a predetermined period of time under a condition that the optical sensors 4a, 4b have detected passage of the aluminum material.
