PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism capable of selectively producing lycopene in large amounts. SOLUTION: The lycopene-producing microorganism is obtained by breeding a bacterium of the genus Paracoccus producing carotenoids in which lycopene occupies≥95 wt.% based on total amount of carotenoids, in carotenoids containing lycopene,β-carotene,β-cryptoxanthin, echinenone, canthaxanthin, 3-hydroxyechinenone, 3'-hydroxyechinenone, zeaxanthin, phoenicoxanthin and adonixanthin produced. The method for producing lycopene comprises recovering lycopene from a bacterium cell or a culture solution using the microorganism. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
