PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical scanner in which the number of components is reduced, the forming cycle time of lenses is shortened and the forming stability of the lenses is improved, and to obtain an image forming apparatus using the optical scanner. SOLUTION: The optical scanner includes: a first optical system which guides a plurality of luminous fluxes emitted from a light source means having a plurality of light emitting parts onto one and the same deflecting face of a deflecting means at different angles in a subscanning direction; and a second optical system which guides the plurality of luminous fluxes deflected with the deflecting means onto a face to be scanned. The plurality of luminous fluxes deflected with the deflecting means are made incident to the second optical system so as to pass different regions in the subscanning cross section, and an optical element A is provided which includes at least one face having a shape defined by respectively different functions for different regions. The generatrices defined by the functions are shifted in the subscanning cross section with respect to an optical reference axis which passes through the center of the reflecting points on the deflecting face of the plurality of luminous fluxes incident to the deflecting means and is orthogonal to the deflecting face to the side same as the side at which the luminous fluxes pass.
